CAN I WORK IF I'M A STUDENT?

If you have a status of the student and the right stamp in your passport (if in doubt have a look at our useful information page in the Visa section), you are allowed to work part-time (20 hours per week) and full-time during your holiday. Otherwise, you are not allowed to work full-time, engage in business while you are studying or to work as a self employed.

From June 1999, all international students can work without having to apply for work permits. They do not need a work permit if they want to work full-time during the holiday period either.

In this section, we tell you about job options you could go for as a student. We tell you what are good points and bad points about a particular job and share our personal experiences with you. We have created a Summary Table which, by means of symbols (explained in the Legend), shows you how much you might earn per hour, which level of English you will need, if you need any experience and how flexible a given job is. On the Useful Information page you can read about National Insurance Number, Income Tax and general advice. Please visit our Visa Section for more information on Employment Rights.
